Collection: Elise Phillips
Elise N. Phillips, born in Wayne, Pennsylvania, hails from a family with a deep fine arts tradition—her great-great-grandfather founded Philadelphia's Newman Galleries in 1865, making her the fifth generation in the arts.
A 1983 graduate of The Hussian School of Art, Elise began her career as a successful illustrator and graphic designer before studying at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
She has maintained a studio in Elverson, Pennsylvania, drawing inspiration from the local countryside, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, Chesapeake Bay, and the Maine coast.
An award-winning artist, Elise is a signature member of the Philadelphia Watercolor Society and belongs to the Philadelphia Sketch Club, Oil Painters of America, and the Mid Atlantic Plein Air Painters.
Artist Statement
Where others see the ordinary, Elise N. Phillips sees a painting. Everyday surroundings inspire her, and her art serves as a journal of the places she has been, seen, and experienced. She captures a sense of nostalgia by creating timeless pieces that connect the present with the past, aiming to evoke the same feelings in viewers that she has felt. Through her work, Phillips presents a visual journal of her surroundings and travels.
