About the Artist:

Jenny Leister Debuque is an abstract painter who lives and works in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. She received her BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and her MFA from Tyler School of Art, Temple University. 

Artist Statement:

My paintings begin with lines and marks drawn from ordinary things around me: shadows across a wall, delicate tree branches, muddy tire tracks, cracks in the asphalt or sometimes just items piled on a bookshelf in my studio. However, the process of painting, playing with and pushing the material, soon takes over. Adding and editing layers bring joy and struggle in the work. There are surprises in what peeks through a brush stroke and what happens when paint is scraped away. I am watching a new space evolve as lines and shapes are scraped, repainted, wiped away and painted again. I want the visual memory of this process and hopefully some unexpected beauty to remain in the end.
